Byron's Obituary

William Byron Shelton was born January 17, 1934 to Robert E. Lee and Lillian Lee (Miser) Shelton. He passed from this life to his heavenly home on May 7, 2022, at the age of 88.

Byron attended McKinley Grade School and graduated Norman High School in 1952.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in March 1955, spending in excess of 27 months in Germany, returning home to re-inlist for another 3 years, 18 months of which were spent in Hawaii.

Upon Separation with an honorable discharge, he gained employment with the U.S. Postal Service in Norman as a city route letter carrier in 1961, Accomplisging a 50+ year gold card union membership in the National Association of Letter Carriers AFL-C10.

Of the Baptist faith, he was preceeded in death by his parents, his best friend and brother Dallas Shelton, his (son-in-law) Ron Chitwood, and grandson, Ronnie Chitwood II.

He is survived by his faithful wife, Sharron whom he married on Valentines Day in 1989, his sister Candace Lee Stafford, beloved daughter Felicia Ruth Chitwood and step-son Bobby Strohmeyer, grandson Jesse Chitwood and his wife Ashley, great-grandchildren Ronnie Chitwood III (Tre) and Kaetie Chitwood, Nephew Barry Shelton, niece Paula Henderson (husband Kelly).

Byron also wishes to pay tribute to his extended family of over 280 thousand union brother and sisters of the N.A.L.C.
