Vivian's Obituary

Born in AR to Hayes & Ethel Elmer. She graduated from School of the Ozarks boarding school. She attended University of Central AR then received her BA in English from Arkansas College at Batesville.

She married Sam Crowder then moved to OKC. She joined Sam's church, Britton Baptist. She remained active as long as her mobility allowed. She loved her church family, taught several classes & was on many committees.

Vivian loved teaching 1st grade. She taught 2 years in small AR schools, 7 in Tulsa, 1 in Germany & 24 at Nichols Hills. She taught in Worms for the US Army with a GS7 rank. She & Sam retired together.

She loved to travel. She bought a car at 21 before she could drive & learned on mountain roads. She traveled Central & South America before marriage. While in Germany she traveled to France, Italy, Switzerland & East Germany before the wall.

Both before & after retirement she traveled to all of the continental US & parts of Canada.

She was an avid birdwatcher, voracious reader & card sharp. In 2018 she moved to San Francisco, a city she had always loved, to live with her daughter Linda. Ever a life-long learner, she embraced technology to make her life easier & more fun.

She is preceded by Sam; parents; parents-in-law; siblings Lois Anderson, Lessie Speed, Colene Croft, Esco & Blaine & most of her siblings-in-law.

She is survived by her daughter: siblings Owen Elmer & Gussie Redfearn; siblings-in-law Floyd Redfearn, Dale & Jeanne Crowder & 100+ dearly loved extended family members.

A visitation will be held Thursday from 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. at Demuth Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 19, 2023 at Britton Baptist Church.
