Ruth's Obituary

Ruth passed away on October 18th in Oklahoma City with loving husband and family at her side. She was always proud of her Oklahoma family history including two ancestors who rode in the 1889 land run. She grew up in Woodward with her mother and twin brother Joe and her stepfather whom Ruth always referred to as Pop with great affection. The children would spend summers near Springfield Illinois on the farm of relatives John and Verna Workman. In 1947 a great tornado devasted Woodward and took the roof and ceiling of their house while they were in it! “You looked up and just saw stars” she explained years later. The family lived with a neighbor across the alley while the home was refurbished. Later, she finished high school in Oklahoma City and graduated from OCU. She relocated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada for adventure and met a geologist in 1958 whom she married, John H. Dayvault. They had three children whom they raised in Calgary, later Santa Cruz California, and Jakarta Indonesia until finally settling in Oklahoma City in 1976 where she was a founding member of Our Lords Community Church. She grieved the death of her husband John in 1989, but God is good and He sent her another loving wonderful man, Smokey N.V. Stover whom she married in 1995. The Stovers lived happily together while blessing many friends and family as role models of aging gracefully while showing Christ-like love to everyone they met. They sold their house several years ago and since then have loved living at the Embark Statesman Club in The Village of NW Oklahoma City. Ruth is survived by her husband Smokey and children Jay, Guy, Wanda, Debs, Mike, Spyce, and Ann plus many other relatives and dear friends. Her memorial service, open to the public, will be at Our Lords Community Church at 11400 N. Portland Ave., Oklahoma City on October 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM.
