Nancy's Obituary


Longtime resident of Oklahoma City and Edmond, Nancy Jo Read Nicholas-Myers went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

 

Nancy was born in OKC, February 9, 1947, to Stanley H. Read and Agnes Oots Read. She grew up as a member of Second United Methodist Church and graduated as a Comet from Old Classen H.S. in 1965. She was attending Central State College when she met her future husband, Don Gail Nicholas. They were married June 17, 1966. Following the wedding, they made their home in San Diego, CA where Gail was stationed in the Navy during the Vietnam War. To this union was born their son, Gary Don Nicolas, 1967. Nancy and Gail dissolved their union in 1970.

 

Once she came back from CA via Texas, Ms. Nicholas-Myers soon began her career as a typist/clerk for the Oklahoma State Dept of Child Welfare. She achieved level 3 status in her 35 years. Nancy retired in 2005. Not one to sit still, Nancy decided to spend her retirement working for Edmond Public Schools. She fulfilled the roles of bus monitor, cafeteria monitor and Kindergarten helper at Russell Dougherty Elementary.

 

Nancy was a caring and generous person. She gave of her time and her talents. She was a faithful blood donor for the OBI. She had to cease her donations when she had a mild stroke in 2008. Nancy didn’t think twice when someone needed a ride to a meeting or to get groceries. In 1976, she became a member of New Covenant Methodist Church in Edmond. She maintained her membership until her death. Nancy was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.

 

Nancy’s passion in life included her involvement in the Masonic Fraternal Organizations. Her parents were involved in these organizations and instilled a lifelong love for their social groups. Her involvement included membership in Fidelis Chapter #426 Order of the Eastern Star, Cartin Maupin Chapter #10, Order of the Amaranth, Daughters of the Nile, Adoram Temple # 95 and Tulsa Shrine No. 8, Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was Worthy Matron for Eastern Star in 1983. Nancy was Royal Matron of Amaranth in 1974, 1989, and 1993. She maintained her membership in both Eastern Star and Amaranth for 58 years. Nancy even married a Mason.

 

In 2003, Nancy became Mrs. Nicholas-Myers when she married Warren Wayne Myers. They had three beautiful years until Warren passed away in 2006.

 

Proceeding her in death are her parents Stanley H. and Agnes, her brother, Stanley I. Read and her sister-in-law, Louise (McHan) Read. Along with her former husband, Gail Nicholas and her late husband, Warren Myers.

 

Those left to mourn her are her son, Gary Don Nicholas of Modesto, CA. Her nephews, Stanley Read, Jr. (Janet) of Tulsa, OK, Sidney Read (Jeanne) of Edmond, OK, and Rodney Read (Emelyn) of Lake Forrest, CA and her niece, Sherry Read of the home in OKC. Also included are her great-nieces, Megan (Jesse Holden) Heltcel, Piedmont, OK, Ashley Read, Sand Springs, OK, and Sydney Read, Oklahoma City, OK. Nancy has two great-great nieces in Lilian West and Adylaine Holden and her great-great nephew Luke West. Also mourning her are her cousins from the Oots side of her family, as well as the Wright Family in Vancouver, Canada.

 

A memorial service will be held in Nancy’s honor, Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 1:00 pm at New Covenant Methodist Church, 2700 S. Blvd. Edmond, OK. 

 

Cremation services were conducted by Demuth Funeral Home and Cremation Society.
