Joan's Obituary

Naomi “Joan” Fitzgerald was born 1927 in Ottawa, Franklin County, KS and passed away March 12, 2023 at Iris Memory Care in Oklahoma City, OK. She was preceded in death by her husband James Fitzgerald in March 1978 & her parents: Leo Miller and Merle Gettinger-Miller of Ottawa, KS and daughter, Linda Buhs of Ottawa, KS. She is survived by her brother Byron Miller in TX. Also 5 daughters: Ann Curry of OK, Jan Fitzgerald of CO, Jo Smith of MO, Jean Conley of OK, and Amy Allen of IL. She was Married to Gaylen Beuthien. Then divorced. His passing was in 2011. Joan & Jim have, to date, 13 Grandchildren; 16 Gr. Grandchildren; 3 Gr. Gr. Grandchildren.

She has been a member of St. Eugene’s, OK City since 1974. And, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ottawa, KS 1950-1972 where Joan taught parochial school. Joan also taught parochial school for Christ the King, Okarche, The Holy Trinity & Oklahoma City Public Schools. She continued her education while raising 6 girls and in 1976 she received a Bachelor of Science in Education at Central State University Edmond, OK. And, in 1980 she received her Master’s Degree of Education. She enjoyed teaching remedial reading!

A memorial service will be held at St Eugene Catholic Church in The Village, OK on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M.

A graveside service will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Ottawa, KS on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at 10:00 A.M.
