Mary's Obituary

Mary Helen Hite died June 22, 2023 following a stroke. She was born Mary Helen Sharpe in Denver, Colorado on June 2, 1935, and moved to Southern California where she obtained a degree in Business from San Diego State University, and where she met Harold Allen Hite, marrying him in 1960. They moved to Tulsa in 1963 and to Oklahoma City four years later, where they lived until Harold's death in 2006. She moved to the Village in 2019.

She worked as a secretary, office manager, researcher, design consultant, and legal secretary, and co-authored two books: Seeing Oklahoma City With Children, and Major Poems for Minor People. She generously and continuously volunteered her time and labor for the Oklahoma Symphony, Lyric Theatre, Civic Center, New World and Ridgeview schools, the Republican Party, and Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for 55 years.

She is survived by her son Kenneth Hite and her daughter-in-law Sheila Ralston, her daughter Elizabeth Aileen Climer and her son-in-law Jason Climer, her grand-daughter Cailin Climer and grandson Cameron Climer, her brother David Sharpe and sister-in-law Karen Sharpe, her nephew Jeffrey Lane, niece Amy Park and grand-nephew William, and numerous California cousins.

Services were held 2:00 pm Monday, June 26 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Oklahoma City. A recording of the livestream is available on the Covenant Facebook page. She requested that in lieu of flowers those so inclined may make a donation to the Covenant's Building Fund.
