Leland's Obituary

Leland Loren Gieger passed on March 19, 2024. He is survived by his father, Loren; brother, Gayland and his wife Shannon; brother, Shawn and his wife Ginger; niece, Lauren Castillo and her husband Rocky; niece, Alex Gieger; nephew, Harrison Gieger and his wife Vivian and son Baylor; nephew, Jackson Gieger; and former sisters-in-law, Ashlea Joplin and Joanie Chambers. He was predeceased by his loving mother, Iola Gieger.

Leland was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 10, 1964. He immediately brought such great joy to his parents and continued to do so throughout his life. He grew up in Fort Worth and had a group of friends who enjoyed his outgoing personality and great sense of humor. He attended Michigan Christian College and played on the baseball team while making more friends and positive impacts. He had a great mind and a life-long interest in military history and medicine. He acquired an extensive knowledge of related facts regarding medicine, weapons, and military strategy.

After college he relocated with his family to Oklahoma. He was close with his younger brothers and consistently put their interests before his anytime they needed him. He took great pride in his family and often bragged about his parents, brothers, and nieces and nephews to whomever would listen.

He was blessed to have neighbors like James Thomas, and a great friend, Brad May. Brad and Leland enjoyed many common interests including football, comedy, and marksmanship. Brad was a true friend and stayed with Leland overnights in the facility where he received care after falling terminally ill.

Leland had an internal strength that allowed him to overcome tough physical and emotional challenges in his life, and he persevered. He coped with many physical illnesses and injuries. Despite any pain he was enduring, he consistently was more interested in the lives of his family members than the discomfort he was experiencing.

In the last years of his life, he again put his own interests behind the needs of his parents. He cared daily for his father after his mother passed and provided companionship, care, and the friendship only a son can provide to a father. He showed an ability to help his father that no one else did. He unexpectedly was diagnosed with yet another vicious illness that quickly ended his earthly life. His hope was in grace through Jesus who he believed was the resurrection and the life. He was much loved by his family, and without any doubt he kept his word, honored his father and mother and family, and he finished strong.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Eph. 3:20-21

Honor your father and mother - which is the first commandment with a promise… Eph 6:2

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;” John 11:25
