Rick's Obituary

"Rick" Hamon was born in Shawnee, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents Gerald Richard Hamon Sr. and Maxine Hamon, by his sister Judy Beatrice Haendel, and by his daughter Kimberly Borron. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara Hamon, his grandsons (daughter Kimberly's two sons) Christopher Holden and Zachary Holden, and his daughter Sharon.

Rick and his wife were high school sweethearts. Their two daughters attended that same Oklahoma City high school, even having two of the same teachers as their parents.

Rick worked for many years in the trucking industry as an office manager. He was briefly in the Army but was medically discharged. He was a member of the Shriners in the 1970s. According to family legend, he may have been the first McDonald's employee to make a Big Mac in Oklahoma City when he was a teenager. He took his young family on car rides on Sundays to listen to the "Dr. Demento" show on the radio. He introduced his daughter Sharon to the British television series "Doctor Who", making her a lifelong fan from the age of 8. He watched a lot of other TV shows such as "Benny Hill" and "Monty Python". His favorite TV show was probably "M.A.S.H."

Rick was interested in classic cars, especially Corvettes. He was also interested in technology and computers. He was an early adopter of the microwave oven and VHS player when they were introduced. He bought the family an Atari 2600 in the early 1980s which inspired his daughter Sharon to pursue a career in computer programming. His favorite Atari games were “Space Invaders” and “Yar’s Revenge”.

Both of his daughters pursued higher education, making them the first generation of this branch of the Hamon family to graduate from college. Though the name "Hamon" is no longer carried by any of Rick (or his father's) descendants, the bloodline continues in the Herrera and Holden families.
