Susie's Obituary

Celia Sue Hodson (Susie) went to be with her Lord on May 16, 2024. Susie was born on August 22, 1939, in Hobert, Oklahoma, the second of four children, to Cecil Benton and Eula Barnes Hodson. Susie grew up in Snyder, OK and lived there until she graduated from high school in 1957. She was a proud Snyder Cyclone and was named Ms. Snyder High her senior year. Susie had many dear friends from school and kept close ties with these friends throughout her life. Soon after graduation, Susie married Earl Wayne Chapman. She and Earl lived in California for a short time and then returned to Snyder to raise their family of three children. Susie loved being a mom and homemaker and created a loving, beautiful home for her family. She was a long-time member of the Snyder Church of Christ and was very active in the Snyder community. After all her children graduated high school, Susie went to work as a bank teller in the Snyder area. Later in life, she and Earl moved to Oklahoma City where she continued her career in the banking industry and worked until she was 75 years old. Upon her retirement, Susie was celebrated as a top employee of BancFirst; she was even asked by the president of the bank to write a teller training manual for the customer service department. As was Susie’s way, she formed lasting friendships with her customers and her co-workers. When her family went into the bank to close her account, the teller and other employees knew exactly who Susie was and were very sad to hear the news of her passing. That was the thing about Susie, she loved people and people loved her. She was full of joy and a sense of humor, and her smile would brighten any room she entered. She had the ability to make every person she met feel important and better for having known her. Some other interesting things you might not know about Susie are that she was an excellent writer – she wrote a book about her life that she was very proud of; she loved to work crossword puzzles; she regularly read the newspaper AND People Magazine cover to cover; she also read the Bible cover to cover several times to balance out the paper and magazines! And she had many dachshund dogs throughout her life that brought her such joy. Family was so important to Susie. She loved the annual Hodson family reunion and was an integral part in the planning and execution of this big event that included multiple meals, a full dance with live band (Cecil Hodson-lead singer/guitarist) and loads of family and friends that attended. She was also a doting grandmother and was on a constant hunt for just the right Christmas gift for each grandchild. These gifts were gathered year-round with much thought and were unique in purpose for each child. The grandchildren were always delighted with such thoughtful gifts from Grandma Susie. Susie had several health issues over the past two years, but she was always eager for activities with her family. She was able to spend some precious time with her kids and much of her family during the past few weeks of her life, which delighted her and was such a blessing for them. Susie is survived by her three children, Benton DeWayne Chapman of Lake Fork, TX; Douglas Kevin Chapman and wife Codi of Oak Point,TX; and Deborah Suzanne Harris and husband Jeff of Edmond, OK; Grandchildren include Colby Chapman, Lyndsey Chapman Gustin, Katelyn Chapman, Megan Chapman, Alexandra Harris Lambert, Anna Harris Crane; 7 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Linda Gayle Hodson McCorkle of Snyder, OK. She is preceded in death by brothers, Benton Lonzo Hodson and James Gray Hodson. Earl Chapman, Susie’s husband of 49 years died in 2016. Memorial Service for Celia Sue Chapman will be held on May 28th at 1:00 at New Hope Church of Christ; 700 W Second Street, Edmond OK 73003.
