Paul's Obituary

Dr. Paul Wayne Kincade died October 5, 2025, as a result of Parkinson's disease. Dr. Kincade was born October 10,1944, in Moorhead, MS, the son of a small-town pharmacist and a piano teacher. After obtaining two degrees at Mississippi State University and a PhD from the University of Alabama, he trained two years in Melbourne, Australia. After 8 years on the faculty of Sloan Kettering Institute in New York where he built the Immunology and Cancer Program at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF). Dr. Kincade's research was supported for 39 years by grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), resulting in over 250 scientific publications leading to him to be listed as a "Highly Sighted Author." The focus of his laboratory was on learning how cells of the immune system called lymphocytes are made in sites like bone marrow.

Dr. Kincade served on editorial advisory boards for 12 scientific journals and the Child Health and Human Development Institute as well and the Immunology Study Section of the NIH. He was a consultant for a number of biomedical companies and for many years advised an Immunology Research Institute in Japan.

Dr. Kincade served as President of the American Association of Immunologists and was designated as "Distinguished Career Immunologist." He traveled to Africa, Cuba, and other nations while serving on the Board of the International Union of Immunology Societies. As President of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, he advocated for medical research funding in Washington DC and worked to promote the careers of young scientists. His own laboratory was an effective training environment for technicians, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.

During his employment at OMRF, he served as Vice President of Research and, finally, "Distinguished Career Scientist." He was also the founding Scientific Director of the Oklahoma Center for Adult Stem Cell Research.

Dr. Kincade leaves a wife, Melanie Aven; daughter, Dr. Kit Kincade; and a brother, Dr. Robert Kincade. Contributions to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation are encouraged.
