Lynna's Obituary
Lynna Geraldine Guffey, known to her family and friends as Jerry, was born June 9, 1933 to Gerald Newton and Willena Kathleen Ozee in Ft. Worth Texas. She passed away October 24, 2023 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Jerry married Bill C. Guffey on September 1, 1953. To their union two children were born: a daughter, Patricia Lynn and a son, Jim. Jerry was a dedicated wife and mother and enjoyed many years at home raising her two children.
After serving on the mission field on the Turks and Caicos Islands, British West Indies, in 1980 Bill and Jerry relocated to Oklahoma City where Bill accepted the position of minister of education at Nichols Hills Baptist Church. Jerry's warm and gentle nature and love for helping others were qualities she maintained throughout her life. Using these gifts, she faithfully served by Bill's side teaching Sunday school and assisting in the youth and children's ministries at the church.
Jerry earned a degree in Religious Education from Southwestern Theological Seminary. A gifted artist with a talent for painting, she achieved a lifelong goal of completing her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Art from The University of Central Oklahoma. She graduated Cum Laude in 1984. Both a historian and an artist, Jerry created "The Oklahoma Urban Land Rush Mural" as a master's thesis project. As a result of this project, she was named OCU's outstanding artist that same year. She was also recognized for her portrait painting.
Later in Life, Jerry taught art in the Deer Creek School system where she enjoyed investing in the lives of young people and instructing them in the various mediums of art.
Jerry is survived by her daughter Patricia Drabek and husband Claude, son Jim Guffey and wife Cheryl, grandchildren, Jonathan, Megan, James, Tami and Logan, great-grandchildren, Logan, Layla, Elliot, Edith, Brooklyn, Jordyn, Ayden, Kendal, Waylon and Riley, and nieces Cindy and Cathy.
A private graveside service will be held later this month in Ft. Worth, Texas.
