Debbie's Obituary
A life defined by faith, family, and a love for adventure, Debra Danice Pope, age 70, went to be with the Lord on September 3rd, surrounded by family after a brief illness. She was born on June 19, 1955, in Garden City, Kansas, to Harry and Joan Nicholson, and was the eldest of four children.
Debbie attended MidAmerica Nazarene College and St. John's Hospital, where she earned her three-year RN diploma. For over twenty years, she cared for many patients as a nurse, retiring from St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City in 2005. Her life was also a testament to the gift of organ donation; she was the recipient of a double kidney transplant in 2005, which gave her a new lease on life for the next 20 years.
Debbie loved to skydive and had over 1100 jumps in her life. She met her husband, Jimmy, at the drop zone. They fell in love and were married on August 21, 1992, in Oklahoma City. She was the family's prayer warrior and loved organizing family cookouts so everyone could gather together. Debbie was an active member of the Life.Church Edmond campus. She also served as a leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for many years. She enjoyed reading, playing games, watching football, doing needlepoint, and bowling in her spare time.
Debbie is survived by her husband, Jimmy Pope; daughter, Kristi, and her husband, Craig Booker; son, James, and his wife, Suzette Pope; daughter, Angelia, and her husband, Rodney VanWinkle. Her grandchildren include Tyler Pope and his wife, Katherine; Reagan Ray and her wife, Jessie; Bryce Johnston; Kenley Booker; Abby Pope; and Izzy Pope. She also leaves behind her brother, Gary Nicholson, and his wife, Deb, brother in law John Pope, and his wife Brenda, as well as her great-grandchildren Emily, Julia, Preston, and Lilly.
Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Joan Nicholson; her brothers, Doug and Curt Nicholson; and her great-grandson, Judd Ray.
In memory of Debbie Pope, the family kindly requests that you consider donating to the National Kidney Foundation at https://support.kidney.org/. Due to her own experience, Debbie was an advocate for organ donation, and we encourage you to consider it as well.
A memorial service is being held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday September 18, 2025 at Life.Church Edmond, 4600 E. 2nd St., Edmond, OK.
