David's Obituary

"David Sherman Johnson Jr., lovingly known as "DJ," born on November 3, 1957, to David Sherman Johnson Sr. and Martha Jane Johnson, passed away at home May 19, 2026.

He is preceded in death by his father, David Sherman Johnson Sr.

He is survived by his loving mother, Martha Jane Johnson of Guthrie; his wife, Karen Johnson of Oklahoma City; brothers Dannie Johnson of Guthrie and William Johnson of Yukon; sisters Terre Johnson and spouse Robin of Guthrie and Cheri Hermann and spouse Shane of Thomas.

He also leaves behind his proud daughter, Meaghan Maytubby and husband Chris Maytubby; adoring grandchildren Jamir and Davina; stepchildren Daniel and Chad Thompson, both of Oklahoma City, and Brian Thompson and wife Kayla of Oklahoma City; along with bonus grandchildren Max, Rosemary, Harlan, and Oliver. As well as many nieces and nephews and friends he considered family.

DJ was a carpenter by trade and a true craftsman at heart. If something was broken, he could fix it. If something needed built, he could make it beautiful. He took immense pride in his work and dedicated more than 30 years as Lead Maintenance at OU Medical, where his hard work, skill, and reliability earned the respect of all those around him.

He lived life his own way — a proud biker with zero tattoos, known for having the biggest beard and the longest hair among most of his friends. DJ was funny, unforgettable, and a beloved uncle to all. He had a way of making people laugh and feel welcome.

Those who knew DJ will always remember him for his great advice, wonderful hugs, his genuine loud infectious laughter, how ornery he was and his love for the ladies.

In honor of DJ, enjoy a few orange slices and think of the stories, laughter, and memories he leaves behind.

A memorial service celebrating DJ's life held on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Britton Christian Church, 922 NW 91st Street, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

DJ will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him."
