Jay's Obituary
Jay Rosser Bond was born October 14, 1932, in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Reford Bond Jr. and Norma Edwurn Bond. He died on October 10, 2025, four days before his 93rd birthday. When Jay was still an infant, his mother died and he and his older brother lived with their grandparents, Reford Bond Sr. and Jeanette Ware Bond in Oklahoma City.
In 1935, his father married Jane Humphrey and the family established their home in Chickasha. Jay graduated from Chickasha High School where he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He became an Eagle Scout and later served as a Neighborhood Scout Commissioner and an Explorer Advisor.
After graduating from high school in Chickasha, Jay enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a BA and LLB. He belonged to Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as chapter president in 1955. He was then commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army and served on active duty in Germany during the Cold War. He retired as a Colonel after 29 years in the Army Reserve.
Jay practiced law in Oklahoma City for 56 years. He was a member of the Oklahoma Association of Defense Council, Oklahoma City Oil and Gas Attorneys, and Oklahoma Real Estate Lawyers. He served as vice president of the Oklahoma County Bar Association and belonged to the Oklahoma State and American Bar Associations.
As a breeder of registered Angus cattle, Jay was active in the American Angus Association. He also served as interim Secretary and Treasurer of the Oklahoma Angus Association. In recognition of his service, the Oklahoma Angus Association gave him the title of Mr. Angus and inducted him to the Oklahoma Angus Hall of Fame.
He was involved in the Civil Rights Movement and marched with Clara Luper in Oklahoma City. He also played "at" golf, played the guitar, sang songs and was famous for his clever limericks.
Jay and his family were members of the Chickasaw Nation. His father served on the Chickasha School Board, and his grandfather, Reford Bond Sr. was appointed National Attorney of the Chickasaw Nation by President Woodrow Wilson from 1913 to 1921 in Washington, DC.; he served four terms as Chairman of the Oklahoma Corporation, and was inducted to the Chickasaw Hall of Fame.
Jay was married twice, first to Mary Ann Mathias, and later to Jo Frazer. He is the father of two daughters, Mary Catherine Alexander (Tom Pfarr) and Jayne-Anne Bond, and grandfather of Connor and Katherine Bol. Lizbeth Frazer, who loved him until her death in 2012, and Richard Frazer (Christine Morris) chose him as their father. Through Jo's family he was blessed with a son-in-law, Curtis Fatig, grandchildren Christina Frazer, Rebecca (Chris) Fleming and Diana (Jason) Wheeler and great-grandchild Olivia. He was also blessed to have a bonus daughter, Hadyn Paternite, and bonus grandson, Leo Paternite. Jo often said the greatest gift she received from Jay was his family. She became Momma Jo to Jay's niece, Susan Purdue, and family.
Jay and Jo were an adventurous couple, bicycling in Europe, rafting the Colorado River, and enjoying their home by the sea in California. They went to the YMCA for over 30 years to their beloved Don Wilson's class. He kept them strong and physically fit so they could enjoy their adventures. The couple enjoyed 50 years of laughter and "Sweetest Love".
Jay is survived by his brother, Myron Bond of Dallas, and sister, Catherine Wooten of Chickasha. He is predeceased by his daughter Lizbeth Frazer Fatig, brother Reford Bond III and sister Jane Bond Hughey.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to their caregivers whose dedication and excellent care enabled Jay to remain in his home: Tiffany Landrum, Barbara Rodriguez, Laura Brown and Net House. Memorials in Jay's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
A private celebration of Jay's life and legacy will be held at a later date.
