Georgia's Obituary
Georgia May Fern Lenora Putnam Jones of Warr Acres passed away on September 27, 2025 in her longtime home. Born on February 7, 1929 to Jesse George Putnam and Pearl Ella Demory Putnam in Shidler, Georgia grew up extremely close to her parents and two siblings. She particularly loved learning the art of sewing from her mother and carried those design skills well into her adult life.
After graduating high school in Shidler, Georgia went on to attend the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, where she developed a strong friendship with Georgia Fay Jones, whose brother Joseph Franklin Jones would become her husband. After graduating with a Bachelors in Home Economics in May 1951, Georgia and Joseph (or “Joe”) married on June 4, 1951.
Georgia and Joe moved to Oklahoma City before welcoming their first daughter Ella in 1952. They then welcomed their second daughter Anna in 1953 before buying their first home in Warr Acres, where she would live for the next 72 years. Georgia took great pride in raising her two girls, who would both go on to give her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, giving Georgia her beloved titles of “Grandma” and “GiGi.” In fact, her oldest grandson David Jr. would describe Georgia and Joe as his “second parents.”
All the while, Georgia opened her home to anyone and everyone, never meeting a stranger. She frequently walked the streets of the neighborhood and befriended everyone she encountered. She had a great passion for helping those in need in any way she could, giving generously to her family and her ever-growing list of friends. She sewed outfits for her daughters as well as various dance studios while also passing on her passion of sewing to her daughter Anna and granddaughter Josi.
Georgia also proudly worked with AVON, weekly delivering their products to her customers around the neighborhood for over 40 years. Even when the delivery drivers dropped off the AVON boxes, they never left without a smile and a Gatorade or Coke in their hands. Additionally, she thoroughly enjoyed working with her husband at Lakeside Golf Course in Moore, which they owned for 17 years and became close friends with so many of their customers.
Most of all, Georgia loved spending time with her family, which she did until her very last seconds as she passed with daughter Ella and grandson Eric by her side. She regularly hosted her parents, siblings, and extended family for holidays. She took care of every single one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who would stay overnight at her house frequently. She could always find a way to make them smile and laugh, having unique bonds with each of them. All of this stems from her deep faith in Jesus Christ, who she loved discussing with her family. She believed that anyone and everyone was worth His love and forgiveness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Jesse Robert Putnam and his wife Dorothy, sister Bonnie Ella Cullison and husband Richard, sister-in-law Georgia Fay, and her beloved youngest grandson, Zachary Paul Starnes. She is survived by two daughters, Ella Starnes, and Anna Reed and her husband David Sr. Three grandchildren: David Jr. and Tara Reed, Josi Reed and Chad Joyce, and Eric and Caitlyn Starnes. Eleven great-grandchildren: Dylan, Gabi, Lexi, Georgi, Dax, Addison, Madison, Cayden, Emma, Gia, and Raegen. Additionally, she is survived by five nieces: Linda, Jessica, Georgia, Roberta, and Lyra as well as one nephew: Richard.
She will be cremated and her ashes will be spread at locations she requested at a later date.
